The idea of M&M Candy started during the Spanish Civil War, when the maker of these now famous M&M Candy, watched while soldiers ate pieces of chocolate that were covered in a hard candy coating. He noticed that these were not melting in their hands or in the hot sun. Forrest Mars was determined and so intrigued by these, he came up with his own version. In 1941, M&M's Chocolate Candies were born!
