Nello Ferrara came up with these Atomic Fireballs in 1954, he is the son of Salvatore Ferrara, the founder of Ferrara Pan. Atomic Fireballs are made with a method called "hot panning". Each candy starts with one single grain of sugar that is placed in the giant panner, which is then heated over a gas flame while liquid sugar, flavour and colour are added. This process is repeated over a two week time period, increasing the size to a one-inch ball. A lot goes into these feisty little fireball candy. Each Atomic Fireball has hundreds of layers! Atomic Fireballs are approximately 7/8 in diameter.
